Meetings

Beavers meet weekly on Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. during the months of September through to June. We are sponsored by St. Luke's United Church and we meet in their gymnasium on the lower floor at 516 The Kingsway. Enter through the north east double doors and down the stairs.

Since our meetings are only one hour in length, we ask that parents make every effort to ensure that their child arrives on time. Parents are asked to sign the children in and out at each meeting.

A Beaver meeting is planned to include a variety of games, crafts, ceremonies, songs, stories and fellowship all wrapped up in FUN. Sometimes Leaders will pick a theme and design the meeting around it. Below is the general outline for a typical Beaver meeting:

Lodges

The Beavers are divided into four different Lodges (Bears, Tigers, Eagles and Wolves) at the first meeting of the year. There are five or six Beavers in each Lodge. Each Beaver receives a Lodge badge, which is to be sewn onto the right pocket of his/her vest (see Uniform page). The Lodges are located in each corner of the hall and each has a special poster that the Lodge members have uniquely decorated.

When the children first arrive they will gather in their respective Lodges where one of the Leaders will inspect their uniform and then they will take part in a quiet activity until the meeting is called to order for the opening ceremony. Crafts are often done on a Lodge by Lodge with one Leader or parent volunteer assigned to each Lodge to help out.

Note: To ensure that the floor of the gymnasium (just recently refurbished) doesn't become damaged or marked, all Beavers are asked to wear white-soled or non-scuffing footwear to meetings.
